SAN FRANCISCO, California: Airbnb hosts can see average earnings of up to $10,000 per year, Brian Chesky, CEO of Airbnb, said in an interview with Yahoo Finance.
The company, which currently has four million hosts globally, as of September 2020, is promoting its host program to attract those wishing to join, Chesky added.
Airbnb will continue to invest in pricing tools and advanced calendar tools, to enable hosts to build and develop their businesses.
The coronavirus pandemic has hit travel hard, but Airbnb stressed that it is weathering the storm better than other traditional players.
Many people who travelled during the pandemic opted for homestays over hotels and picked destinations closer to home.
In a statement this week on the release of the platform's fourth-quarter results, Chesky said, "Our performance in 2020 showed that Airbnb is resilient and adaptable."
Earlier this month, company officials noted that it will develop a new tool to help its hosts confirm the health of guests before they check-in through the optional "Healthy Safety Attestation."
Last week, Airbnb posted fourth-quarter earnings of $859 million, which is above analysts' expectations, as reported by Yahoo Finance.
The company also recorded 46.3 million booked nights and "experiences", with a gross booking value of $5.9 billion.
Due to the pandemic, the platform expected a revenue decline in 2020, recording $3.4 billion, down 30% from $4.8 billion in 2019.
Airbnb will focus on the travel rebound and anticipates subsequent demand to be mainly local, Chesky noted.
