FAIZABAD -- Two children have been killed and five others injured as a mine left over from past wars went off in Afghanistan's northern Badakhshan province, head of provincial information and culture Qari Maazudin Ahmadi said Thursday.
A group of children found a toy-like device in Shahidakan village of Kasham district on Wednesday evening and began playing with it but the device suddenly exploded, killing two children on the spot and injuring five others, the official said. (Afghanistan-Landmine Explosion)

WASHINGTON -- Six people died after a car crashed into a highway work zone on Interstate 695 in the U.S. state of Maryland on Wednesday, Maryland State Police said.
A grey Acura passenger vehicle entered the work zone traveling between temporarily placed jersey walls, striking multiple construction workers before overturning, according to a preliminary investigation. (U.S.-Car Crash)

YANGON -- Two people were killed and 14 others sustained injuries in a road accident on Myanmar's highway on Thursday morning, the highway police said.
The fatal accident took place at around 5:50 a.m. local time near the milepost 284/1-2 on the Yangon-Mandalay highway when a light truck hit a lorry which was stopped on the road. (Myanmar-Traffic Accident)
