Blue Jays center fielder Daulton Varsho and Baltimore Orioles designated hitter Samuel Basallo left Friday's series opener in Toronto with injuries.
Varsho was diagnosed with left wrist discomfort, while Basallo exited due to right abdominal discomfort.
Varsho tried to play through the injury that was noticeable in his first at-bat. He returned for the top of the fourth inning even though Yohendrick Pinango had taken his place in the on-deck circle in the third.
But Pinango did bat for Varsho in the bottom of the fourth and took over right field, with Nathan Lukes shifting from right to center.
Varsho, 29, is batting .256 this season following his 0-for-1 line Friday. He has five homers and 17 RBIs through 61 games in his fourth season in Toronto.
Basallo, 21, was lifted for pinch hitter Jeremiah Jackson in the sixth after going 0-for-2.
Basallo, who made his major league debut last season with Baltimore, is hitting .273 with nine home runs and 26 RBIs in 52 games this season.
